Second Star Guide

Fayetteville beside the New River Gorge

US 19 crosses the gorge on the steel arch just north of town. Canyon Rim overlooks the bridge; Court Street returns the trip to brick storefronts, the county courthouse, outfitters, cafés, and dinner.

River, bridge, trail town

A county-seat downtown beside a national park

The bridge and Canyon Rim sit north of Fayetteville, while Court Street and the courthouse blocks form a compact town center to the south. Rafting vans, climbing racks, coffee counters, and local dinner tables all belong to the same short US 19 corridor.

Stay

Pick town or a nearby cabin when you want restaurants and trail access without turning the weekend into a commute.

Morning

Canyon Rim is the easy bridge introduction. Long Point adds the bridge-facing rock ledge, while Endless Wall follows a longer cliff-edge route.

River

Book rafting by season and comfort level. The Lower New is the classic big-water day; gentler options suit mixed groups.

Season

Summer is river-heavy, fall brings leaf color and Bridge Day, and spring can be excellent for trails before peak heat.

Downtown Fayetteville in the Appalachian hills

Court Street and the courthouse blocks

Brick storefronts, local tables, and outfitter doors

The Fayette County Courthouse faces a downtown grid of older commercial buildings, independent restaurants, coffee, and outdoor shops. Wood Iron covers breakfast and espresso; Elliott's and The Station turn the same few blocks into two very different dinners. This is Fayetteville's own center, not a park entrance plaza.
